The Stuff of Life: A Memoir Workshop
Susan Bono
September 10-14, 2025
What have you been longing to write about? The stuff of life, of course! Face it, we’ve all accumulated enough memories, insights, emotional and literal baggage to write about for the rest of our lives! What’s missing is structured time, gentle guidance, and the support of a creative community. Emandal ArtStays has all that, plus beauty, serenity, nourishing organic meals, and magic!
In this five-day workshop, we’ll employ the techniques of short form memoir to create brief, focused pieces of writing that capture specific moments or experiences in vivid detail. By writing honestly about stuff we’ve lost, found, bought, borrowed, stolen, or received as gifts, we’ll be telling the stories of our lives. Click here for more information.

Baskets from Nature
Louisa Lenz Porter
Begin with a hike in the woods to collect willow, grapevine, honeysuckle, ivy, virginia creeper, sedge, redbud, wisteria, vinca and tule….. all of which can be used to weave a glorious, rustic work basket. Learn the whys and wherefores of foraging… the time of year best suited to each plant. Louisa augments with various and sundry types of material that aren’t local to Emandal, but are beautiful and useful. Click here for more information!

Illustrated Journaling
Laura Corben
This is an invitation to join me to explore the beautiful Emandal farm. My tools are basic and easy to transport: a 5x8 inch bound sketchbook, a mechanical pencil and a good eraser, pens in a couple of sizes. I believe everyone can draw, and everyone can learn the tricks of watercolor and ink line. My only caution is that journaling can be addictive. I just counted over 50 on my shelf! Perhaps you have a novel or short-story that needs your full attention…. or maybe you have a passion for water-color, oil or pastels, but want to focus on your methods for awhile…. or you might just want some time to work on several of your arts, crafts, hand-work, but would like to do it surrounded by friendly folks, and enjoy that camaraderie as well as meals prepared for you. This could be the perfect get-away, by yourself or with a friend or two!
