Each summer, three local massage therapists offer their services to our Family Camp guests as well as Private Group guests (upon request). They are all very talented and do a fantastic job of helping folks ease into a relaxing stay at Emandal.
Twenty-one years ago Clive and Tam Adams asked me out to Emandal to do massages on some of the guests. They had never offered massage before that time and wanted to see how it would go. Where to do it? We tried the “The River Room”, “Otter’s Cove”, “Chester’s Cabin”, “The Rabbit Hut”, “The Cook’s Cabin”, a little room near the path to the cabins called the “Canyon Room” and I even did some massages in one of the cabins up at camp. I remember doing massage one time in Tam’s dining room! We draped curtains around the massage area for privacy. Finally the big room where we had Jesse’s art gallery (where I also did massage) was divided up into the two beautiful rooms we have now for doing massage.
There are many guests who have been there through all of this who like to talk and laugh about the many different places they had to go to receive their massages. We are able to keep our present massage rooms warm in the cool mornings and cool in the hot afternoons.
I grew up in the East Bay Area and lived in San Francisco in the seventies. I started studying healing therapies in the mid seventies beginning with Polarity Therapy and Esalen Massage. Healing and body work became my passion leading me to take every kind of massage and bodywork therapy I could find in the bay area.
When I moved to Mill Valley in the late seventies I studied for two years at North American College of Natural Health sciences where I graduated as a “Thousand Hour Massage Therapist”. While there I studied physiology, kinesiology, therapeutic exercise, Shiatsu, Swedish Massage, physical therapy, anatomy, and “Touch for Health”.
Throughout my forty years of practicing body work, I enjoyed studying meditation work and took courses in “Total Person Facilitation” which included body mind work. Helping bring people into balance in body, mind and spirit.
I also use “ Reiki Therapy” to help facilitate the balance of energy in the body and mind.
I taught massage therapy at “North American College of Natural Health Sciences” before moving to Willits. I also taught massage for U.C. Berkeley’s extension program for thirteen years. I have taught “hundred hour” programs and many workshops here and in the Bay area over the years.
I have my own practice in Willits and I have also worked for a local Chiropractor’s office for many years. I also work in the Bay Area several times a year.
I look forward every summer to seeing many of the wonderful guests that I have had the privilege to work with at Emandal throughout the years and I look forward to meeting new people each summer. It brings me great joy in helping people relax and feeling refreshed and balanced in body, mind and spirit. My main approach with Emandal guests is to give a very deep relaxing and nurturing massage using various techniques bringing you into balance with your true nature.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.
Best Wishes, Yvonne
