Here’s a glorious photo of “our” mountain range, Sanhedrin and Impassable Rock. Our neighbor, June Ruckman, took this Tuesday morning, February 5, looking up river towards Emandal from the bridge at Hearst.
Kashaya and I were among the thousands of people in Northern California who managed to capture for posterity “first snow” of the season…. Facebook was filled with absolutely stunning photos. Here are some of ours:
We didn’t experience the Polar Vortex, thankfully, but we have had, and continue to have, cold days, in between blue-sky, sun filled ones. Grateful for firewood, layers of clothing, and a warm hat Zarya knit for me from some or our own sheep wool.
I continue to be enamored of Thrift Stores, especially ones run by Senior Centers, Hospice Groups and Education Foundations… much better deals often times, but not always. You’ll have to see my $14.99 wooden rocking chair. Below, a few of the salt and pepper shakers found (Pigs discovered by friends Tim and Sarah…) AND our live mover and shaker, Rosco, guardian puppy extraordinaire found at our local Humane Society.
Speaking of “older” beings, can you guess which of these is older? The walnut tree in our orchard on the lawn, or Jean Near, my former high school guidance counselor/PE teacher? (Both magnificent, wouldn’t you say?) The photo was taken January 31, on her birthday…… at the party she orchestrated and for which she prepared much of the food? I’ll even make it worth your while. The first person to guess her age correctly may pick up a free jar of jam this summer at the farm!
And speaking of Cowboys! Just got back from Elko, and the annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering where I firmed up our 2020 Artist (Andy Hedges) from Texas. This year’s performers, Doris Daley and Doc Mehl, are coming from Alberta, Canada, to perform at Emandal September 28. The horses in the photo were here not long ago, to round up a bunch of cows and calves that meandered over the hill from Potter Valley.
Family Camp Registration went extremely well this year…. cabins are filled! We were able to place around 20 new families from our wait list. If any open up, we’ll start at the top of our list, and proceed from there. Things are looking good….. especially the Dining Room Tables Casey is painting. They should all be the same red this year!
Former Staff Registration: February 10-16, 2019
